The antiviral, anti-inflammatory effect of natural medicinal herbs, mushrooms in SARS-CoV-2 infection
It is exciting that the outer black layer of the chaga mushroom with the active ingredients Inotodiol, betulinic acid, melanin and Ergosterol peroxidehas been shown to inhibit the influenza virus directly and almost 100% by studies as early as 1996.
One of the potential candidates against the SARS-CoV-2 virus could therefore be the Inonotus obliquus, also known as Chaga mushroom. This tree fungus grows in the circumpolar climate of Siberia, Europe and North America and is used to treat various medical conditions. In a recent study from 2020, the most effective herbs and mushrooms were analysed in terms of their antiviral and anti-inflammatory effects which were analysed under laboratory conditions.
